Scents of Summer: June in the Moors

As we step into June, we step into the opening of summer. Wild rose buds are blooming in the hedgerows and the breeze that sweeps across the moorland is warmer, carrying with it the scents of early summer; elderflower and rowan blossom, sun-warmed grasses and heather. By now, baby lapwings, oystercatchers and curlews can be spotted by the side of the road, just finding their tiny feet, still following their parents on the ground as they are yet to grow into their wings.

As the weather warms, we begin to enjoy outdoor carving and sketching again. And we are also stepping out beyond our studio. June is a big month in our calendar as it's the month of North Yorkshire Open Studios. Instead of opening up our own studio, which is just that bit too remote, we are hosted by the lovely Sarah Cawthray at her home ceramics studio in Kirkbymoorside. We love meeting people, chatting about our work and about other people's creative inspirations and exploits. You can find out more about NYOS and all the other artists involved here.
